Men's Soccer Keeps Rolling With 4-2 Win Over Albright

(box score)

Widener scored three times in the first eight minutes, including the first of two goals from freshman Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ), and held on for a 4-2 Commonwealth Conference victory over Albright at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Remondelli's first goal in the fourth minute opened the scoring.  He took a free kick from senior Joe Brydges (Philadelphia, PA) and headed one inside the right post.

A corner kick in the sixth minute helped give the Pride a 2-0 cushion.  Brydges fed one from the left side to freshman Eric Bihlear (Tabernacle, NJ), who had his shot blocked.  Freshman Malik Krcic (Saylorsburg, PA) cleaned it up in front by knocking it home for his second goal of the year.

Sophomore Troy Czapor (Richboro, PA) in the eighth minute got a cross from freshman Ross Staudt (Marlton, NJ) and headed it inside the right post for his fifth of the season and a 3-0 Widener lead.

Albright got on the board with 52 seconds left in the first half when Tyler Waters converted a penalty kick for a 3-1 deficit.

Another penalty kick paved the way for the Lions to close to 3-2 in the 69th minute.  Shawn Murphy had his attempt saved by junior Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia), Kenny Horning got the rebound and fed in front to Murphy, who knocked it in.

Widener restored the two-goal margin in the 71st minute.  Bihlear launched a long throw and following a scramble in front, Remondelli got it on a half volley from 20 yards and rocketed one in for his fifth of the season and first multi-goal contest.

Czapor had six shots, Krcic added four and Valdner only had to make two saves for the Pride, who have won three straight, are unbeaten in their last four and are 6-1-1 in their last eight matches.

Waters took five shots and Ryan Barr made six saves over 45 minutes for Albright (8-8, 2-4 CC).

Widener (7-6-2, 4-1-1 CC) sits in third place in the league, one point ahead of Lebanon Valley (4-2) and two points behind Elizabethtown (5-1) for second.

Widener on Saturday visits No. 3 Messiah for a 6:00 pm match in Mechanicsburg, PA.
