Widener Battles to 2–2 Draw at Eastern to Close Regular Season

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Widener Men's Soccer unable to hold early lead and settle for 2-2 draw against the Eastern Eagles.

The Pride finish the season with a 2-9-6 record (1-2-4 MAC).

BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Pride took 18 shots (7 on goal) while the Eagles took 10 shots ( 5on goal).
  • Gage Meckley and Max Hartke each scored one goal.
  • Michael Burckley and Will Cole finished with an assist.
  • Widener and Eastern each earned 5 corner kicks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride jumped ahead in the 16th minute when Max Hartke finished a setup from Michael Burckley to make it 1–0. Gage Meckley doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute, finding the back of the net after a pass from Will Cole. Eastern responded three minutes later, trimming the deficit to 2–1 in the 36th minute. The Pride defense would limit Eastern chances the remainder of the half to preserve the lead.
 
  • Eastern was able to find the equalizer in the 58th minute, tying the game at two on a penalty kick. Widener controlled much of the second half, outshooting Eastern 13–5 and forcing four saves from the Eagles' keeper. Jordi Lopez came close to restoring the lead with back-to-back shots on target in the 57th minute, while Hartke tested the keeper twice more late in regulation. Despite sustained pressure and four second-half corners, the Pride couldn't find a winner, settling for a 2–2 final.
