Widener to Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday

Widener's department of athletics will join in the celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on Wednesday.

The festivities will take place during Widener's women's basketball game against Albright, which begins at 6:00 pm. While all students are invited to attend, we especially ask that all female student-athletes join us to help celebrate the day.

NGWSD began in 1987 as a day to remember former United States Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Since that time, NGWSD has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports.
