Women's Basketball Surges Past No. 20 Lebanon Valley in Second Half for 68-60 Victory

Sophomore Casey Pritz finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, including 12 points in the second half, to lead Widener to a 68-60 Commonwealth Conference win over No. 20 Lebanon Valley at Schwartz Center.

 

After trailing by 34-26 at halftime, Widener (11-10, 7-3 CC) exploded in the second half by outscoring Lebanon Valley 42-26.  The Pride also utilized a strong defensive effort to spur the comeback, limiting the Dutchmen (19-2, 9-1) to just 32 percent (19-of-59) from the field.

 

Vanessa Hejnas gave Widener its first lead of the game, 44-43, with 11:36 left on a layup and fellow freshman Kate Dellinger hit a jumper with 4:25 remaining to give Widener the lead for good at 56-54.

 

Hejnas closed with six points and five rebounds off the bench, and freshman Francesca Lee added nine and nine.  The Pride's bench outscored the Dutchman's by a 22-11 margin.

 

Dellinger finished with 11 points and five rebounds.  Freshman Lil Carney added 11 points and four steals, and senior Lindsey Isler dished nine assists.

 

Suzie Noyes led the Dutchmen with 18 points.  Eryn Schultz added 12 points and five assists.

 

Widener helped celebrate the WBCA “Pink Zone” by wearing pink jerseys during the game.  “Pink Zone” is the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's initiative to find a cure for breast cancer with donations going to the WBCA/Kay Yow Breast Cancer Fund.

 

Widener on Wednesday travels to Reading, PA for a Commonwealth Conference matchup with Alvernia at 6:00 pm.
