2/13/08 -- Widener could not overcome poor shooting in a 58-48 Commonwealth Conference loss to Lebanon Valley.
The Flying Dutchmen (19-3, 4-3 CC) went on an 18-2 run to open a 50-21 lead with 9:27 left, during a span in which they held the Pride without a basket for five minutes.
Widener (10-12, 2-5) did not quit, cutting the deficit to 52-38 with 3:53 remaining after junior Megan Sipple (Boothwyn, PA) hit a 3-pointer and a layup on consecutive possessions. But the Pride could not get closer than the final score.
Sipple, sophomore Rayne Reber (Pottstown, PA) and junior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) scored eight points apiece and senior Stephanie Bixby (Boothwyn, PA) grabbed 10 rebounds for Widener. The home team shot 25 percent (14-of-57) overall and 2-of-15 from 3-point range.
Suzie Noyes poured in 12 points with Lori Lidlow and Eryn Schultz contributing 10 apiece for LVC, which shot 32 percent (18-of-56) overall.
Widener was one of over 900 schools who participated in "Think Pink," the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's initiative to help raise breast cancer awareness. The team wore pink shooting shirts and honored breast cancer survivors before the contest.
Widener hits the road Saturday to face seventh-ranked Messiah, beginning at 2:00 pm in Grantham, PA.
