Men's and Women's Swimming Teams Fall in Season Openers to Scranton

Widener's men's swimming team was dealt a 107-98 loss in its season opener by Scranton and the women were handed a 122-63 setback at Schwartz Center.

Sophomore Jesse Bregman (Oreland, PA) took the 50-yard freestyle in 22.42 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.71 seconds for Widener (0-1).

Freshman Joe Deighan (Wyomissing, PA) grabbed the 200-yard IM in 2:03.60. The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team won in 3:20.84 and consisted of Bregman, Deighan, sophomore Greg Golden (Vineland, NJ) and Jordan Mulligan (Dingmans Ferry, PA).

The women (0-1) got a victory from the 400-yard medley relay squad. The team was comprised of Samantha Pitts (Tamaqua, PA), fellow senior Meghan Sands (Easton, PA), Carlee Moir (Broomall, PA) and fellow freshman Lauren Buckley (Folsom, PA).

Both of Scranton's teams improved to 3-0.

Widener on Wednesday visits Swarthmore for a 6:30 pm meet.
