Pat Brown

Patrick Brown enters his first year as the defensive coordinator for the Pride for the 2022 season. Brown was elevated to his new position after being the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach since 2020.

During his brief time at Widener, Brown helped improve the Pride's defense when it came to stopping the passing game, as the defense allowed only 179.2 passing yards per game — an improvement of 68.4 yards from the 2019 season. Brown also coached a secondary that had 10 interceptions for the second consecutive season this year. He also mentored All-MAC Second-Team defensive back Anthony Jordan this past season.

On special teams, Brown coached a unit that made the third-most field goals in the MAC this season with 10 and tied for fifth in extra-point attempts made with 26.

In addition, Brown was selected for the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the Chicago Bears in 2020.

Prior to joining Widener, Brown spent the 2019 season at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M as the defensive backs coach. While with the Golden Norsemen, he developed the top-rated passing defense in the conference, mentored an All-American, and five student-athletes who would go on to commit to Division I schools.

Brown has also worked at Catawba College as the cornerback coach and video coordinator and at Arkansas Pine Bluff as a graduate assistant and cornerback coach. He got his coaching start at Millersville from 2015-17 as the defensive backs coach and travel coordinator. While with the Maurauders, he attended the 30 Under 30 Coaches Academy as part of the AFCA convention.

As a player, Brown competed for four years as a tight end for Greensboro College where he was named to the USA South Academic Team. He earned his BS in exercise and sport studies from Greensboro in 2012.
