Charlie Carpenter

  • Title
    Assistant Football Coach (Offensive Line)
Carpenter joins the Widener football staff and reunites with head football coach Mike Kelly and offensive coordinator Manny Matsakis from their time together with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  His offensive line allowed the fewest sacks in the Canadian Football League (CFL) during the 2009 season while also leading the way for Fred Reid to rush for 260 yards and set a Blue Bomber single-game rushing record versus the British Columbia Lions as the offense amassed a rushing total of 364 yards, another club record.

A proven winner, Carpenter holds two Grey Cup rings that he won in back-to-back seasons with two different teams - the first with the Baltimore Stallions in 1995 and the second with the Toronto Argonauts in 1996 as the club's offensive line coach.  He also previously held the position of offensive line coach with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1992 and 1993 when they were Eastern Division Champions in consecutive Grey Cup games working with then offensive coordinater Mike Kelly.  The former U.S. Marine is a 10-year CFL coaching veteran who has been an offensive coordinator with both the B.C. Lions from 1997-1998 and the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1995.  Most recently, he was the offensive line coach at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas in 2013 & 2014.  He has held coaching positions at Division 1-AA Murray State, Cumberland Community College, and various high schools in Ohio.  Carpenter, a native of Loveland, Ohio, holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from Murray State University.
