CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Baseball fought back from an early 4-0 deficit to take game one of their three game series against the Hood College Blazers.
The Pride are now 16-16 on the season and 10-6 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Braedyn Clinton had a fantastic day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
- Ryan Bauerle delivered a clutch performance at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a pivotal two-run double and a run scored.
- Trae Sanders earned his fifth win of the season, battling through 6.2 innings and striking out seven batters to keep the Pride in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a quiet first from both offenses, the Blazers struck first in the top of the second. Hood took a 1-0 lead after a single, a sacrifice bunt, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly. In the top of the third, Hood made it a 3-0 game after a two out single drove in two runs. The Blazers continued their two-out rally, driving in another run with a double down the left field line, putting the Pride in a 4-0 hole. The Pride got their offense going in the bottom of the third. After two infield singles by Braedyn Clinton and Ryan Bauerle, Kevin Bukowski drove one in with a single to left field to make it 4-1. Widener continued to climb back into the game in the bottom of the fourth, as Braedyn Clinton delivered a two run double into centerfield cutting the Hood lead to one.
- Hood added on one in the top of the sixth with a solo home run to left field, giving them a 5-3 lead. The Pride took back the momentum in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs to take the lead. Widener loaded the bases after a Myles Calderbank single, a hit by pitch from Ryan Madden, and a walk from Braedyn Clinton. Ryan Bauerle then delivered a two-run double down the right field line to tie things up. Sean Burke followed that up with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 6-5. The final run of the inning came when Bukowski drilled one to third base, causing an error, allowing Bauerle to come home to make it a 7-5 Pride lead. The Blazers were able to scratch one across in the ninth, but that is all they would get as the Pride secured a 7-6 conference win.
