Bauerle Collects 100th Career Hit as Widener Holds off DeSales

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Widener Baseball was able to hold off the DeSales Bulldogs after the game was delayed to the next day.

The Pride are now 3-2 on the season.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Ryan Bauerle had a huge day at the top of the lineup, going 5-for-6 with four runs scored, a home run, two RBIs, and a stolen base.
 
  • Brandon Yoder delivered a strong performance, finishing 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs.
 
  • Brendan Raven contributed in the middle of the lineup, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored.
 
  • JP Diguiseppe went 1-3 at the plate, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple that produced three RBIs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Ryan Bauerle launched a lead off home run, giving the Pride an early 1–0 lead. DeSales answered in the bottom of the first, using a pair of hits to push across a run and tie the game 1–1. Widener broke the game open in the second inning with a five-run rally. Ryan Bauerle drove in another run with an RBI single. After taking the lead, the bases were still loaded for JP Diguiseppe and he delivered ripping a bases clearing triple to center field to score three runs, putting the Pride ahead 5–1. Later in the inning, Brandon Yoder delivered an RBI single to bring home another run, extending the Widener advantage to 6–1. DeSales trimmed the lead in the third inning, plating a run to make the score 6–2, but Trae Sanders settled in and kept the Bulldogs off the board in the fourth, maintaining Widener's four-run lead.
 
  • The Pride added another run in the sixth inning after Brendan Raven delivered an RBI single. DeSales responded in the bottom of the sixth with a run of its own to cut the deficit to 7–3. The Bulldogs surged back in the seventh inning, scoring five runs on four hits to briefly take the lead 8–7. Widener answered immediately in the eighth inning with three runs, reclaiming control of the game. Brendan Raven delivered to go ahead single, knocking in two runs. Brandon Yoder extended the Widener lead to two after an RBI triple. After the game was delayed, DeSales came back and added one run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 10–9, but Ethan Lytle shut the door in the ninth inning, striking out two and stranding the tying run to secure the 10–9 Widener victory.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride come back to Chester for their home opener on Tuesday, March 10th. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
