Baseball Drops Final Two Games in Series Against DeSales

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Widener Baseball dropped the final two games of its three-game set against the DeSales Bulldogs.

The Pride are now 3-4 on the season.

BY THE NUMBERS GAME 1
  • JP Diguiseppe went 1-for-3 with one run scored, one RBI, and one stolen base, driving in a run during Widener's two-run first inning.
 
  • Ryan Bauerle finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base
 
 
  • Brendan Raven recorded one hit and one RBI, including a sacrifice fly that plated a run in the opening frame.

  • JP Diguiseppe went 1-for-3 at the plate, ripping a double and drawing a walk.
 
  • Kevin Bukowski contributed with a 1-for-3 performance, which included driving in a run on a sacrifice fly.
 
  • Ryan Bauerle scored two runs while also stealing two bags.
 
  • Chris McKenna also drove in a run for the Pride with a sacrifice fly.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • DeSales struck first in the opening frame, taking a 1-0 lead after a sacrifice fly. Widener quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, JP DiGuiseppe drove in one with a single followed by a sacrifice fly from Brendan Raven to give the Pride a 2-1 lead. DeSales answered in the top of the second inning, putting together a big rally that produced four runs on five hits to move ahead 5-2. The Bulldogs added to their momentum in the fourth inning, putting up four hits and scoring three runs to take a commanding 8-2 lead.
 
  • Widener looked to respond late, getting base runners from players such as Ryan Madden, Brendan Raven, and Brandon Yoder, but the Pride were unable to push additional runs across. The Bulldogs pitching staff held Widener scoreless over the final innings, and the Pride could not cut into the deficit as DeSales secured the 8-2 victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
  • The game started with back-and-forth action in the first inning. DeSales struck first after scoring on a drop third strike to take a1-0 lead. Widener quickly answered in the bottom half of the first. Ryan Bauerle was hit by a pitch, stole second, and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Bukowski to tie the game at one. DeSales regained the lead in the second inning after two singles. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the third after a sacrifice fly.
 
  • After a quiet fourth, DeSales added to their advantage in the fifth inning after another RBI single, pushing the score to 4-1. The visitors tacked on another run in the sixth after two walks and a double, making it a 5-1 game. Widener mounted a final push in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Bauerle was hit by a pitch again and advanced to third on a double down the left field line by JP Diguiseppe. Chris McKenna then delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to score Bauerle. But that is all the Pride were able to get and would lose by a final score of 5-2.

The Pride come back to Chester for their home opener on Tuesday, March 10th. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
