Baseball Falls to Ursinus in Home Opener

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Baseball dropped its home opener to the Ursinus Bears in a game filled with offense.

The Pride drop to 3-5 after the loss.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears struck first in the top of the first, plating two runs after a double, two singles, and a Widener error. After the Widener bats went quietly in the bottom half of the inning, Ursinus tacked on five more runs on three singles, a double, and two walks. Widener cut into the lead in the bottom of the second. Brendan Raven singled and Chris McKenna doubled, putting runners on second and third. An Ursinus error gave Widener their first run of the day making the score 7-1. The Ursinus offense continued to pour it on in the third, scoring three more runs after capitalizing on Widener mistakes. Widener answered back I the bottom half of the inning, scoring two after a Brendan Raven RBI double and a Brandon Yoder RBI single.
 
  • After Ursinus put up another two spot in the top of the fourth, Widener answered back after a Brian Fitzpatrick double and a Ryan Bauerle RBI single. Kevin Bukowski hit an opposite field solo shot in the bottom of the fifth to give the Pride some life. Brian Fitzpatrick Bobby Doherty followed that up with back-to-back RBI singles to bring the score to 15-7. The Bear would add on three more runs in the later innings while the Pride were unable to get any across and would lose by a final score of 18-7.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Rutgers-Camden. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
