Baseball Falls After Early Inning Struggles

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Baseball was unable to claw back from early deficit in a loss to the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors.

The Pride fall to 3-6 after the loss.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Brandon Yoder continued his hot streak, going 3-4 at the plate with three doubles and two RBIs
  • Ryan Bauerle had another nice day, going 2-5 with a double.
  • Brian Fitzpatrick was solid, going 2-4 with a double and an RBI.


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Widener offense went quietly in the first, Rutgers-Camden used a two-run home run and an RBI double to take a 3-0 lead. The Scarlet Raptors blew the game open in the bottom of the second, scoring ten runs on eight hits to take a 13-0 lead. Widener got the bats going in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Brandon Yoder stepped up to the plate and delivered a double to left field to drive in two. The Rutgers-Camden bats stayed hot in the top of the fourth, scoring three more runs. The Pride would find a little life in the bottom of the fourth as Chris McKenna drove in one with an RBI single followed by a wild pitch to score another.
 
  • The Pride would score two more in the bottom of the 6th, as Chris McKenna drove in another followed by another score from a wild pitch. Brian Fitzpatrick would add on another in the top of the seventh with an RBI double but that was all Widener would get as the game was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the seventh. Widener fell by a final score of 19-7.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride will travel to Grantham, Pa. for their first conference game of the year against Messiah on Friday, March 13th. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
