VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Widener traveled to Virginia Beach, Va., but the No. 1 Marlins claimed both games of the non-conference match up.
The Pride drop to 1-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
Virginia Wesleyan was the first to score, jumping ahead in the opening inning. After a two-out double placed a runner in scoring position, the Marlins took advantage with an RBI single to center field, leading 1-0.
Widener attempted to answer back in the second inning when Katelyn Tong hit a single, but she was thrown out attempting to steal, ending their chance to score.
The Marlins increased their lead in the second inning. A couple of walks alongside a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, and a sacrifice fly brought in another run. Virginia Wesleyan then broke the game open with a three-run double to left center, expanding their lead to 5-0.
The Pride struggled to find their rhythm throughout the middle innings.
In the third inning, Virginia Wesleyan continued to add to their lead. A double followed by an RBI hit ignited another rally, and the Marlins tallied two more runs with a triple and another RBI single, widening the gap to 9-0.
The Marlins added an extra run in the fourth with an RBI single to center field, making it 10-0. Widener failed to produce a late comeback in the fifth as Virginia Wesleyan clinched the run-rule victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
Virginia Wesleyan quickly established dominance, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Marlins took advantage of aggressive baserunning and timely hitting, highlighted by an RBI single and a sacrifice fly that gave them an early 3-0 advantage.
Widener attempted to respond in the second inning when Hayden Sissons earned a walk, but the Pride couldn't capitalize as the inning concluded with a strikeout.
The Marlins opened the game significantly in the third inning with a six-run explosion. A combination of singles, stolen bases, and defensive errors enabled Virginia Wesleyan to increase their lead to 9-0.
Continuing their offensive onslaught in the fourth, the Marlins added four additional runs with several hits, including a two-RBI single hit up the middle that pushed the score to 13-0.
Widener looked to mount a comeback in the fifth inning when Jocelin Mayorga drew a walk, but a double play cut short their rally as the Marlins wrapped up the game with a run-rule victory.

The Pride return to Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 11, for their first home doubleheader of the season against the University of Rochester. Game times are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
