CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball delivered an electrifying performance in a one-point overtime victory over Messiah which secured a 90-89 win.
The win moves the Pride to 7-14 in the regular season and 4-6 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jacob Aryee poured in 22 points to lead the Pride offense.
- Jay-Nelly Reyes held five steals.
- Widener shot 46.1% from the field and made 10 three-pointers on the night.
- The Pride battled through 13 lead changes and secured 48 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride opened the game with a slow started before Bright hit a tripe at 17:00. TJ Bryson sunk a triple on the next series before a back-and-forth offensive move occurred. The Falcons would hit a run before Aryee tallied his first points of the afternoon. Namisse Musonge put up a block and Emmett Kane stole the rock before Dylan Schlatter followed suit for a fastbreak layup at 12:03. Musonge saw another block minutes later while Aryee hit a triple to make the score 23-15 Falcons. Aryee continued to rain threes with back-to-back buckets. Kori Segich saw an opportunity at the line to hit a pair. With under a minute left, Segich hit a jumper in the paint to bring the game within three. Reyes' steal gave Aryee the final points at half to go down 38-37.
- Bright once again opened scoring with back-to-back triples. Bryson gave the lead back to the Pride with a layup at 17:08. A lead battled emerged with numerous swings. Reyes jumped the Pride to a four-point lead with 14:01 left. Aryee pushed the score to above 60 with a layup off a Schlatter pass. A slow day from the charity stripe finally gave Segich two to begin a Pride run. Bryson, Segich, and Kane would see layups to take a 70-62 win. Bright saw back-to-back triples with under four minutes. The Falcons ended with regulation with a last seond jumper to send the game to OT.
- In overtime, Bright would open with a free throw as the Pride and Falcons battled for control. Reyes would take control late with the final four points and a last second free throw to give the Pride a 90-89 win.

Widener returns to the Schwartz Athletic Center on Wednesday, February 11 to face the 12-9 (8-2 MAC Commonwealth) Albright Lions. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
