Weeknight Match Falls Short Against Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Widener Women's Volleyball take a set in a weeknight defeat against Haverford.

The 3-1 loss moves the Pride to 1-7 in the regular season.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride opened to a quick service ace from Chronister before going on a 6-1 run to force a Fords timeout. Kramer would begin to pick up kills while Mira Canali would bring the score to double digits. Canali, Vacca, and Gabriella Bottino would put the first set in winning grasps. A Zimmerman and Bottino block put the Pride in a winning situation while Bottino capped off set one with a 25-19 win.
  • The second set opened in favor of the Pride with a 2-0 lead but the Ford took a 5-3 lead before substitutions came in. Vacca, Kramer, and Benjamin would help bring the score closer. For the majority of set two the score would be within a point on either side with the Pride keeping it close with back-to-back Vacca and Canali blocks. The Fords would finish the set with a 4-0 run to tie the score 1-1.
  • Airyn Zimmerman and Benjamin would open with an assisted block. The Ford offense would take off but a Vacca and Canali block gave the Pride a point. Benjamin forced the score to double digits starting a short run. Vacca would hold the final Pride point to lose set three 25-20.
  • An early back and forth in set four would show a 7-4 Ford lead. Barnes would take a reception dig giving Mary Carter an assist and Kramer a kill to take the eighth point. The Ford would find a short momentum with a 5-0 run but the Pride would then go on a 5-1 run of their own. A Ford attack error gave the Pride their final point of the match as they fell 25-19 in set four.
