Widener Women’s Volleyball Drops Final Virginia Beach Match

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Widener Women's Volleyball loses the final game of their Virginia Beach road trip.

The Pride fall to 0-3 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The opening set stayed tight early, with Widener trading points behind kills from Bottino and Kramer to bring the score to 10–12. The Marlins pulled ahead on a 5–1 run to create separation at 17–11. The Pride tried to respond with a steady defense to close the gap. However, the Marlins would ultimately take the first set 25–19.

  • The Marlins came out aggressively in the second set, quickly jumping ahead due to several service aces and kills. The Pride struggled to respond with a stagnant offense that produced only six kills. Airyn Zimmerman tried to rally the team with a strong service ace midway through the set, but the Marlins' lead proved insurmountable. A final kill from the Marlins' Brianna Clay ended the set at 25-16.

  • The Pride opened the third set with renewed energy, using strong net play from Azira Benjamin and Zimmerman to build an early 5–1 lead. A pair of service aces from Chronister and steady play at the net by Kramer extended the lead, and the Pride never looked back. Closing on a 4-1 run, the Pride secured the set 25–13, cutting the Marlins' lead to 2–1 in the match.

  • The Pride battled hard in the fourth set, keeping pace with the Marlins through the early stages. The Pride stayed within striking distance, with strong kills from Benjamin and Kramer helping them pull even at 11–11. The Pride continued to fight, putting them on top 16-13, with kills from Kristen Vacca and a service ace from Bottino. Despite their efforts, the Marlins' aggressive play was no match for Widener, who ultimately fell 25-19.
