NEWTOWN, Pa. - 11 Widener student-athletes were placed on the winter 2024-25 Academic All-MAC list, as announced by the conference office this week.
The Pride's 11 were
Matt Daulerio of men's basketball,
Mia Robbins of women's basketball,
Gabby Nye,
Kayla Robinson, and
Maria Muzzarelli of women's track and field,
Samuel Knowles and
Tom Flear of men's track and field,
Sean Lehan and
Jason Mongiovi of men's swimming, and
Lauren Kalsbeek and
Sally Meyers of women's swimming.
This award is voted on by the MAC's athletic communications directors/sports information directors, with the Academic All-MAC being 50% athletes and 50% academics. Student-athletes with a fall semester GPA of 3.2 or higher are eligible to be nominated.
Daulerio capped off his collegiate career with a season high 28 points against Ursinus. Over the course of the 25 games, the redshirt senior accumulated 348 points to average 13.8 points per game. On top, he would amass 43 blocks and 149 rebounds.
Robbins would hold a standout season to lead the Pride to another trip to the MAC Commonwealth Championships game against Messiah. The Voorhees, N.J. native played in all 27 games this season to average 18 points per game, a season high 29 points against Stevenson, and total points. On the defensive side, Robbins had 21 blocks and 30 steals. Following the season, Robbins earned COBL All-Area and D3hoops.com Second Team.
Two familiar faces are joined by a newcomer to the Academic All-MAC team as Nye and Muzzarelli return while Robinson makes her mark this season. Nye continued her successes with another trip to the NCAA Championships in the mile where she took ninth overall with a 4:57.74 earning Second Team All-American. Robinson saw her highest finish at an NCAA Championships in the pentathlon as the Bristol, Conn. native took fourth overall earning First Team All-American. Muzzarelli wrapped up her indoor season with another team title and two first team All-Conference selections in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash.
Knowles and Flear joined the track and field team after throwing down top times in the conference and nation. Knowles qualified for NCAA Championships in the 400-meter and would take 10th overall with a 48.52 earning Second Team All-American. Flear ended the indoor season with a Third Team All-Conference selection in the 10k.
A successful season in the pool earned two to the team for men's swimming. First year Lehan would have a showing at conference championships where he earned Rookie of the Year after taking two titles in the 500-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle and a bronze in his 200-yard freestyle. Mongiovi earned his spot on the team following defending his 400-yard individual medley title. Mongiovi also took fourth in the 200-yard individual medley and fifth in the 200-yard butterfly.
Women's swimming placed two on the team as Kalsbeek and Meyers joined for the first time in their careers. Kalsbeek would place seventh in the 400-yard individual medley at conference championships while also ninth in the 1650-yard freestyle and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle. Meyers earned her spot after taking fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle.
