NEWTOWN, Pa. - Five Widener student-athletes were placed on the spring 2024-25 Academic All-MAC list, as announced by the conference office this week.
The Pride's 5 were
Kevin Bukowski of baseball,
Clark Trowbridge of women's lacrosse,
Samuel Knowles of men's track and field, and
Kayla Robinson and
Gabby Nye of women's track and field.
This award is voted on by the MAC's athletic communications directors/sports information directors, with the Academic All-MAC being 50% athletes and 50% academics. Student-athletes with a fall semester GPA of 3.2 or higher are eligible to be nominated.
Buwkowski continued his second year of play with more impressive stats. The Doylestown, Pa. native would start and play in 38 games this season while accumulating 34 runs on 47 hits. Of the 47 hits, 12 would be doubles, one would be a triple, and 10 tallied home runs to hold a .679 slugging percentage. While on offense, Buwkoski went 10-of-11 in stolen base attempts. The defense side showed 264 putouts and 22 double plays.
The senior Harleysville, Pa. native rewrote the draw control records on Dixon Field. Trowbridge became Widener's All-Time Leader in Draw Controls on Apr. 23 against Eastern with 241. Trowbridge wrapped up her collegiate career with 18 games started and played, 39 goals with one assist. Trowbridge held a .711 shots on goal percentage with 75 draw controls. On defense Trowbridge would hold co-lead the team with
Makayla Cox with 26 caused turnovers.
Knowles competition concluded at NCAA Championships for the third straight season. A 48.68 in the 400-meter dash at NCAA Championships showed a second team All-American recognition. At conference championships, the Euphrata, Pa. native took home gold in the 400-meter and a bronze in the 200-meter dash, helping the Pride to a fourth place finish in team standings.
Robinson and Nye continued to display their talents as Robinson entered postseason competition after being named MAC Field Athlete of the Year and taking home gold in the long jump, shot put, triple jump, and 100-meter hurdles. Robinson would place 17th in the long jump with a 5.55-meter distance and 19th in the triple jump with an 11.67-meter mark at NCAA Championships. Nye concluded her season with a gold in the 10k and a silver in the 1500-meter run at MAC Championships. Her familiarity at NCAA Championships continued as well with a second team All-American recognition in the 5k with a 16:50.57. Robinson and Nye also helped the Pride to a three-peat conference title.
