PHILADELPHIA – Widener Football, Women's Volleyball, and Women's Cross Country earn members on the 2025 PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Teams following their fall seasons.
For the fall 2025 seasons, Widener earned four spots on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team for football, women's volleyball, and women's cross country. Joining the other PhillySIDA members are
Luke Shimko (Football),
Luke Shaeffer (Football),
Elizabeth Barnes (Women's Volleyball), and
Kathryn Long (Women's Cross Country).
To be eligible for the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team, the individual must hold a 3.30 in their respective sport (3.00 for football) and hold significant statistics throughout the season.
Football
Two new members of the Pride football team joined the Academic All-Area Team after standout seasons. Sophomore
Luke Shimko would lead the Pride on defense and after the 10 games played he would hold 83.0 tackles, four TFLs, two sacks, three interceptions, five quarterback hurry ups, and a touchdown.
Luke Shaeffer also joined Shimko on defense with 62 tackles, two TFLs, an interception, and two forced fumbles. The two would help the Pride defense to an OT win against FDU-Florham and a come from behind win over King's.
Women's Volleyball
Elizabeth Barnes wrapped up her collegiate career this fall with a first-time spot on the Academic All-Area Team. Barnes garnered MAC Commonwealth Co-Defensive Player of the Year with her 509 digs and 109 set assists. Barnes would help aid the Pride to a 13-15 season record while surpassing 1500 career digs.
Women's Cross Country
Kathryn Long earned her spot on the team for the first time in her career after a record-breaking season. The Clifford Twp, Pa. native finished her season with a second straight individual qualification to NCAA Championships where she finished with a ran a 23:09.7. A weekend earlier, Long rebroke her own Widener record with a 21:12.4 at NCAA Metro Regionals and would place third at MAC Championships to earn First Team All-Conference.
