McGraw Highlights MAC Championships with Two Golds and Field Athlete of the Year

Pride earn eight All-Conference

READING, Pa. – Widener Men's Track and Field capture second overall at MAC Championships as Matayo McGraw picks up hardware.
 
The Pride took third overall with 98 total team points, just five points behind Lebanon Valley who finished second.

1st Team 2nd Team 3rd Team DAY 1 – FRIDAY (36 Total Points | 2nd Place)
 
The Pride would open the meet with a sixth-place finish in the DMR. The quad of Gavin Kelly, Derek Rudd, David Johnson, and Joe Nescio would run in a 10:38.89.
 
Tyler Ressler would qualify for finals in the 60-meter dash as he would clock a 7.09. Erastus Ndirangu would just miss finals with his 7.12.
 
Tom Flear would pick up points in the 5000-meter run. Flear would place fourth overall with a 15:24.93.
 
The 4x200-meter relay would place fourth to wrap up the running as Ressler, Matayo McGraw, Elijah Celestin, and Sam Knowles would clock a 1:31.68 just missing a medal.
 
In the weight throw, Isaac Almoney would take gold with a 17.70-meter toss in his final attempt. 
 
Aidan Wilson would pick up points in the pole vault. Wilson vaulted to a 4.00-meter height and a sixth-place finish.
 
Jacob Grossman captured silver in the long jump with a 6.88-meter jump on his final attempt. His distance would mark a new personal best.
 
DAY 2 – SATURDAY (98 Total Points | 3rd Place)
 
Knowles continued his sprint speed in the 400-meter dash where he took gold. He would capture a 49.02 to win by nearly a second. Celestin would see points too with a sixth-place finish and a 50.98 final time.
 
Ressler's finals in the 60-meter would show a 7.16.
 
Johnson would clock in a 1:58.32 in the 800-meter race. He would place seventh overall and earn two points for the Blue and Gold.
 
Knowles continued his racing with a bronze in the 200-meter dash where he finished with a 22.29. Ressler also saw competition as he clocked in a 22.94.
 
Flear picked up an all-conference selection in the 3000-meter run as he saw a new personal best 8:35.63.
 
In the 4x800-meter relay, Johnson, Ashton Ray, Daniel Murphy, and Austin parks clocked a 8:19.62.
 
A huge showing in the triple jump would show a 1-2 finish. McGraw would lead the way with a 15.12-meter distance on his second attempt. Grossman's third attempt would show a 14.10-meter jump to earn him silver.
 
Almoney would just miss scoring in the shot put. He would throw a 13.55-meter distance in his fifth attempt in finals.
 
McGraw went on to finish his weekend out in the high jump. His 1.98-meter jump would win by over two marks. Grossman took fifth overall with a 1.83-meter height.

Widener returns to Chester, Pa. to prep for the AARTFC Championships slated for Friday and Saturday, Mar. 7-8. This year's regional championships will be held in Ithaca, N.Y.
