NEWTOWN, Pa. - Graduate student
Gabby Nye has been named MAC Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete, as announced by the conference office.
To be eligible for this prestigious award, a candidate must have a 3.2 GPA or higher in the fall semester of their graduating year.
The award is based on 50% athletics and 50% academics, and there are four categories: GPA, academic awards, national athletic awards, and conference athletic awards. Each of those are ranked on a scale of 1-10 for a total number out of 40 possible points. Candidates must have at least 20 points to be considered.
Nye continued her distance dominance in her final season of cross country. She would go on to take first overall at MAC Championships to be named MAC Runner of the Year for the third straight year. The Shippensburg, Pa. native captured first with a time of 22:33.5 to move onto NCAA Regionals where she took second to qualify for the NCAA Championships with a 22:01.3. Nye's final NCAA Championships would show the highest finish in program history and a personal best of 21:48.5. Nye is currently studying biology/pre-physical therapy and Spanish in her graduate year.
