Men’s Basketball Falls to Swarthmore in Final 2025 Game

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball wrap up the 2025 year with close trip to nearby Swarthmore that comes down to a second half fight.
 
The 91-80 final moves the Pride to 2-7 in the regular season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jacob Aryee held 31 points to lead the Pride contingency.
  • Jay-Nelly Reyes registered six rebounds for the team high.
  • Reyes and Ethan Dodson held the only Pride blocks.
  • The Pride shot 42.9% from the field, 33.3% from three, and saw 18 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A triple from Dylan Schlatter opened the 40-minute game after an Emmett Kane rebound. Nelly put in a layup for a quick 5-0 lead. Kori Segich would push the score to 9-4 after a jumper in the paint before Myles Bright's fastbreak layup came after an Aryee steal. A trip to the line for Aryee made the score 12-6 with 13:51 left in the first. Back-to-back-to-back triples rained for Aryee as the Pride took an 11-point lead. Bright drained a triple with 8:24 left to continue the scoring. Bright put in a pair from the charity stripe to give the Pride their largest lead of the half. Schlatter capped off the half with a free throw to head to break up 46-35.
  • A Garnet run opened the second before Kane broke it with a layup at 18:21. The Garnet climbed to a 48-44 deficit. Another run would give the Garnet a lead while Aryee slowed the scoring with a pair from the stripe. TJ Bryson's trip to the charity stripe came home with two points while Aryee tacked on another for his stat line. A battle emerged with just under 10 to play as Kane put in a layup to make the score 63-62 Swarthmore. Kane's triple at 7:50 brought the Pride back within one. A long back and forth rally showed before the Garnet pulled ahead by five with 4:45 remaining. Segich tried to reel in the score with a triple with 2:51 left but the Garnet capped the game with an 8-1 run to end the game 91-80.
