GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Widener Women's Basketball put up a staggering 90 points against the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawks.
The Pride are now 2-0 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Mia Robbins delivered a dominant 31-point performance on 12-of-13 shooting, adding seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists to lead Widener's offense.
- Giada Palmieri provided a major spark with 15 points and six rebounds, going 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
- Liliana Metrick added 14 points, knocking down two threes and finishing a perfect 4-for-4 at the line while also grabbing four boards.
- Lindsay Kutz turned in an efficient outing with eight points on 4-for-5 shooting, along with five rebounds and two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener jumped out to an early lead in game number two, using back-to-back scores from Mia Robbins and Avalyn Baer to gain control. Liliana Metrick scored a team high 7 points in the first frame, while the Pride's defensive pressure generated multiple turnovers. Widener closed out the quarter with a 22-16 lead.
- Widener took full command in the second quarter, outscoring the Seahawks by 10 behind steady contributions from Metrick, Palmieri, and Kutz. Palmieri attacked the rim repeatedly, scoring seven points in the period, while Robbins continued her efficient scoring with another five. A 11–4 Widener run towards the end of the quarter broke the game open and sent the Pride into halftime leading 46–30.
- The Pride maintained their advantage as Robbins completely took over the third quarter, erupting for 14 points in the period alone. Widener continued to dominate inside, with Baer and Stackhouse adding baskets in the paint. St. Mary's attempted to push back, but Widener's was able to limit the damage to maintain a 68-48 lead heading into the final frame.
- Widener closed out the Gwynedd Mercy Tournament championship game in emphatic fashion, limiting St. Mary's to just eight fourth-quarter points. Palmieri scored eight in the frame, and Robbins added another eight as well, extending the lead to as many as 34, the team's largest of the game. Widener's defense forced several late turnovers, and the Pride would secure a 90–56 victory.
