HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONEÂ
-
The Spartans would be up to bat first, and two single RBIs would send York runners on third home as they would get a score two in their first attempt at bat. The Pride would fail to get a hit in their first at bat however, as the first inning would end with the Pride down 0-2. In the top of the second, the Pride's strong fielding would see deep hits turn to fly outs as they would not allow a run or hit in the inning. Widener would leave two runners on base as they would score neither of the runners and keep the score 0-2 heading to the third inning. Ally McDaid would make her presence felt as she would catch two highlight line outs in the third, as Katchur's strikeout would put three straight batters away. Widener would start strong with a runner on base and only one out, but a double play would shut down the Pride's at bat as the third inning would close with the same 0-2 score.Â
-
Sam McCarthy would be a bright spot in the Pride fielding for the fourth inning as she would catch two pop outs and put out a runner heading to first to send York back to the outfield in three runners, but the Pride would follow suit as they would also go three up three down. Heading into the fifth inning, the score had not changed since the first, still 0-2. The Spartans again would pick up three straight outs in the fifth, and the Pride would do the same. York would be threatening scoring with a runner on third and two outs in the top of the sixth, but an Abby Blake put out would stop the Spartans from scoring.Â
-
The Pride would explode in the sixth inning, starting with a McCarthy single RBI to third base to send Paris Balilonis home with bases loaded. The very next at bat, Amanda Danz's single RBI would send Taylor Bell home to tie the game up. Sara Clymer would be hit by the next pitch, scoring Kate Tong and taking the lead. Blake would be next, sending a single to second base and scoring McCarthy. Finally, Caitlyn Katchur would be walked and send Danz home. Despite being down since the top of the first, the Pride would enter the seventh inning up 5-2. The Spartans, suddenly in need of three runs to tie the game, would load the bases in their first three hits. A walk would give them a score, but a fly out would get York an out as well with bases still loaded. Another two walks would give the Spartans a tie game, as both teams had five in the top of the seventh with one York out. York would hit a grand slam however, to take a four-run lead. The Pride would now have to score four in their final at bat to tie the game, down 5-9. They would record two walks, but ultimately would not score as the Pride would fall 5-9.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWOÂ
-
The start of game two went similar to the first as the Spartans came out hot. An RBI single would see York score in their first at bat. For the Pride, Kate Tong would send a missile to left field as her one-run home run would tie the game at the end of the first inning at 1 each. York would come out swinging again in the second inning, again scoring on an RBI single. The Pride would respond as Blake Shuler's RBI single would tie up the game at two, and Liv Robinson's RBI single would give Widener the lead. Tong's single to center field would score two runners as the Pride would further extend their lead. The inning would finish with a Danz booming double to score Tong and give Widener a 6-2 lead. York again would stay hot, hitting five RBI singles and an RBI double to steal the lead at 6-8. A 2-run home run would push the lead further as the Pride would go down 6-10. York would hit another home run to add a run, as the Spartans would end their at bat up 6-11. The Pride would score no runs in their at bat as they headed into the fourth inning down 6-11.Â
-
Widener's fielding would step up in the top of the fourth as the Spartans wouldn't score in their at bat, but the Pride would also not score a run. In the fifth, two Spartan walks would lead to unearned runs for York, and an RBI single would extend the lead further. York would hit a 2RBI triple as they continued to hit everything. Heading to the bottom of the fifth, the Pride would find themselves in a 6-17 hole. The Pride would not score in the inning, and the game would end 6-17 in five.Â
