Rodriguez Breaks Into NCAA Top-20 in Hammer Throw at Ursinus Track and Field Festival

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Widener Women's Track and Field made strides nationally with new top times in the nation at the Ursinus Track and Field Festival.
 
FRIDAY
 
Jillian Walker opened the meet for the Pride in the discus. Walker marked a 27.23-meter throw which fell just shy of her personal best mark by 0.18-meters.
 
Tatiana Carr took the high jump where she hit a height of 1.50-meters. Carr would take third overall.
 
SATURDAY
 
Opening Saturday's competition was Isabel Rodriguez in the hammer throw. Rodriguez took first overall in the meet with a 51.03-meter mark to win by five meters. Her throw marks her at eighth in the nation before the weekend results are submitted and extends her first-place overall ranking in the conference. The 51.03-meter throw also marked a new season best.
 
Sydney Altman took fourth overall in the hammer throw with a 41.62-meter mark. Altman's throw moves her into the all-time top 10 listing for Widener at eighth. Her 41.62-meter throw shattered her personal best of 33.89-meters.
 
In the triple jump, Kayla Robinson jumped into the top 50 in the nation with a 10.83-meter jump. The junior also moves into fifth in the Widener All-Time Top 10 listing.
 
Savannah Steger and Amanda Simpson saw top marks in the pole vault. Steger marked a 3.05-meter jump while Simpson hit a 2.45-meter height. The two would take first and third respectively.
 
Shannon Pfeifer's first 3000-meter steeplechase would result in a second-place finish and a final time of 12:19.39.
 
In the 100-meter dash, Maria Muzzarelli qualified first with a 12.71 while Jayla Gore finished close behind in a 13.42 to also qualify. Olivia Giannella saw her first 100-meter dash of the season and finished with a 13.72. In finals, Muzzarelli bettered her time for a 12.60 final to move to 75th in the nation. Gore also better her time with a 13.17.
 
Three Pride runners would be grouped in the 400-meter dash as Emma Schultz led Kelly Barr and Olivia DeVito. Schultz clocked a 1:03.52 while Barr (1:04.22) and DeVito (1:04.24) followed.
 
The hurdle runners consisted of Elise Daniel in the 400-meter hurdles and Robinson and Theresa Kervick in the 100-meter hurdles. Daniel clocked a 1:12.20. Robinson and Kervick finished in 17.58 and 17.66 respectively.
 
Muzzarelli's day would come to an end in the 200-meter dash where she took take first overall and see a new top time in the nation. Muzzarelli clocked in at a 25.77 and moved into 55th in the nation. Giannella and Gore in with final times of 28.55 and 28.62.
