CHESTER, Pa. - Widener softball will be hosting their annual "Strike Out Cancer Night" doubleheader on Tuesday, April 9 against Delaware Valley scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
This season, Widener softball is also "Fighting with Fred (Dohrmann)" who has been fighting his battle with cancer. Dohrmann retired in 2022 as the winningest head coach in Widener softball history and has been one of the most influential people in the history of Widener Athletics. Dohrmann returned to Widener as the Director of Physical Education.
Widener Athletics and softball invite everyone to join the evening dedication under the Widener University Ridley Township Softball Facility sign at Dougherty-Gillespie Park
Following game one at 5:30 p.m. Strike Out Cancer Night and Fighting with Fred will begin with remarks from Widener University Director of Athletics Jack Shafer and will transition into remarks from the Dohrmann Family and softball alumni.
Throughout the doubleheader, Widener softball will be promoting awareness to cancer by giving away wristbands, selling T-shirts and positive-vibe cookies, and raffling off various items. All proceeds will be donated.
Widener will offer the Pride Ride for spectator transports throughout the event. The Pride Ride will be available for pickup behind the Schwartz Athletic Center for drop off at the Widener Softball Field.
