Widener Softball Splits Against Penn State Harrisburg

The Pride Picked Up Their Third Win in a Row in Game One

CHESTER, Pa. - Widener softball would shut out Penn State Harrisburg before their bats would turn cold in game two of the double header.

The Pride moves to 10-12 on the season and remains 4-6 in conference play. 

BY THE NUMBERS: GAME ONE 

BY THE NUMBERS: GAME TWO 

  • Three Pride players would record a team-lead two hits. 

  • Caitlyn Katchur's six put outs would be a team best. 

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE 

  • Both teams started slow, as neither would score in inning one. In the top of the second, Taylor Bell would get the Pride going with a double 2RBI to score Abby Blake and Jalia Lawrence. Liv Robinson's single RBI would send Bell home and would go scoreless in their at bat as the Pride would take a 3-0 lead. Neither team would score in the third as the 3-0 lead would remain heading into the fourth inning. 

  • Widener would strike again in the top of the fourth as Paris Bililonis' 2RBI double would see Bell and Blake score. The Lions would go for three straight outs in their at bat, highlighted by a double play as the Pride would extend their score to 5-0 going into the fifth. As neither team reached home for the final three innings, the Pride would secure a 5-0 win. 

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO 

  • The Pride would start slow in their first at bat, as they would record no hits. The Lions would bat strong in comparison, scoring four runs and taking an early 0-4 lead. Neither team would score until the bottom of the sixth, when a Penn State Harrisburg batter would hit a two-run homer to put the Pride down 0-6. The Pride would not score in the top of the seventh as they would fall 0-6.

The Pride will continue their road trip as they travel to Aston, Pa to face the Knights of Neumann University. First pitch is Thursday, April 18 at 3pm.
