Widener Softball's Bats Turn Cold against Neumann

The Pride End Their Road Trip a Even 3-3

ASTON, Pa. - Widener softball falls in the final games of their road trip as they lose both games to the Neumann Knights.

The Pride fall to 10-14 on the season and remain 4-6 in conference.

BY THE NUMBERS: GAME ONE

BY THE NUMBERS: GAME TWO

  • Jalia Lawrence, Samantha McCarthy, and Katelyn Tong all recorded an RBI for the Pride.

  • McCarthy would also lead in put-outs with seven.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE

  • The game would be very slow for most of the innings, as the Pride recorded just one hit in each of the first four innings and the Knights would only total one hit over the entire stretch. In the fifth inning, the Pride would go three straight outs, but the Knights would score on Widener errors and a single 2RBI. This would put the Pride down 0-3 after a scoreless start after the fifth inning. Widener would again only get one hit in their at bat in the top of the sixth, and the Knights would push their lead with scores on a single RBI and a wild pitch causing a runner to reach home. With the Pride being unable to record a hit in the top of the seventh, Neumann would take a 0-5 win in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO

  • The first inning went by quickly as Widener would total no hits and Neumann would get one. The Pride would wake up in the second inning, as Samantha McCarthy's single RBI would send Katelyn Tong home. The Knights would go down in three batters, and the Pride would hold a 1-0 lead heading into the third. In Widener's at bat, Tong's single RBI to left field would score Liv Robinson, and the Knights would go without a hit as the Pride would extend their lead to 2-0.

  • Neither team would score in the fourth inning, and the Pride would go without a hit in the top of the fifth. The Knights would tie up the score in their at bat, as a single 2RBI would put the score at 2 each heading into the sixth. Neither team would score in innings six and seven, forcing the game to go into an eighth inning to determine a winner. The Pride would score in their at bat, as Jalia Lawrence's sacrifice fly out would send Taylor Bell home for the Pride lead at 3-2. Unfortunately, the Knights would score on a sacrifice bunt to tie the game, and a single RBI to third base would have them win as the Pride would fall 3-4 in the eighth.
