ST DAVIDS, Pa. - Widener men's volleyball pulls off a come from behind win to take down the Eastern Eagles in five sets.Â
The Pride improve to 9-11 and 2-5 in conference play.Â

Matthew Christ again had a big game, leading the team with 16 kills and eight block assists, along with two service aces.Â

Josh Matchett sets his new season high in assists with 42. He also had eight kills, five block assists and three service aces on the monster day.Â

As the team, the Pride totaled 15 assists to the Eagle's nine.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ

The first set was close to start, with the score tied at five. A 5-1 Eagle run would put the Pride down 8-10, but Matchett's passing, kills, and blocks would have the team retake the lead at 15-14. A 6-1 Eastern run late in the set would put the Pride down 18-23, but a 7-1 Pride run led by Stephen Marquis' blocking would put Widener ahead at 25-24. Eastern would finish with three straight scores however as the Pride took a 26-28 loss.Â

A 3-0 run early in the second set led by Martino's hitting would put the Pride up 6-4. The Eagles would score three straight to tie the game at 11, and they would score two for every Pride point down the stretch. Christian Wannamaker's kill would spark a three-point run to tie the game at 19, and a Marquis kill would put the Pride up 26-25. Eastern would score four of the next five points unfortunately as Widener would lose the second set 27-29.Â

Widener would start the third set on the wrong side of a four-point run, but a Christ-led 4-1 run would have them take the lead at 7-6. Strong blocks would have Widener go on a 3-0 run to extend the lead at 10-8, and a four point run later would put the Pride up 16-13. Later in the set, Martino and Christ would lead a 6-1 charge to take the lead 24-19, and a Christ kill would take the third set 25-20.Â

Widener again would suffer a 4-0 Eagle run early in the fourth set, but Matchett's kill would close the gap at 6-7. Down 10-11 the Pride would explode with blocks led by Marquis as they would go on a 8-0 run to put them up 18-11. Christ and Martino kills would put the Pride up 21-13, and an Eagle attack error would have Widener take the fourth set 25-17.Â

In the final set, Christ's three kills would make up half of the 6-0 Pride lead to start. The Eagles would wake up and score four straight, but Martino and Matchett would get two kills each as Widener would go on a 5-1 run to take a commanding 11-5 lead. Ethan Cox's kill and an Eagle error would put the Pride in position to complete the reverse sweep at 14-7, and a Martino kill would seal the deal as the Pride would rejoice over the comeback victory with a 15-9 win in the fifth set.Â
