CHESTER, Pa. - Widener softball's home opener is spoiled by Eastern as they take both games in the doubleheader.Â
The Pride fall to 3-5 and 0-2 in conference play.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME ONEÂ

The first inning saw no scores as Eastern would leave a runner on base and Widener would leave two. In the second, the Eagles would steal multiple bases and get two hits as they would score four in the top of the inning. The Pride would leave one on base as the second would end at 0-4. The third inning would be a quick one as neither team would get a hit and the Pride would end the third set still down 0-4.Â

Eastern would hit the ground running in the top of the fourth as they would score two runs to extend their lead further. The Pride would strike out swinging on their three at bats. The rest of the game saw two hits by Eastern and one by Widener's Liv Robinson, as the seventh inning ended 0-6. Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME TWOÂ

The first inning of game two was a nightmare for the Pride. The Eagles were first at bat and would record eight hits and 13 runs in the top of the first. Widener would record no hits in their first inning, and an RBI double in the top of the second would push the score to 0-14 going to the bottom of the second. Widener still would fail to record a hit in the bottom of the second, and both teams would go without a hit in the third inning.Â

The remaining two innings were uneventful as neither team scored a run, and the first hit wasn't until Katelyn Tong singled after a 14-pitch at bat. The Pride would fall in five innings 0-14.Â

The Pride will look to bounce back as they stay home for a double-header against Swarthmore. First pitch is Tuesday, March 19 at 4pm.Â
