HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
-
The first inning was truly one to forget as the Garnet scored four runs. The Pride responded with a three-run Paris Balilonis home run that ended the first with Widener down 3-4. In the top of the second, a Garnet triple would lead to a fly out RBI. The Pride would not score in the second as the inning would close with the Pride down 3-5. The Garnet would score four more runs in the top of the third, but Widener's Amanda Danz would hit a booming 2-run home run to end the third with the Pride down 5-9.
-
The fourth inning would start slow as neither team would record a hit. Pride fielding would force three outs despite two runners on base, then a Danz RBI double would score Lawrence and Balilonis, ending the fifth with the Pride closing the gap at 7-9. The top of the sixth would see a Swarthmore 2-run home run, but the bottom of the sixth was electric for the Pride. Wild pitches and walks would score two, and a Kate Tong RBI and Amanda Danz 2RBI would see the Pride storm back to go up 12-11. At the top of the seventh, Swarthmore would get their first batter walked, but three ground outs including a strong play at first base from Samantha McCarthy would close the miraculous comeback as the Pride would get the 12-11 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO
-
The first inning of game two would see no hits from the Garnet and Jalia Lawrence's single be followed by three outs. The second inning would have neither team record a hit as the game remained scoreless. In the top of the third inning, a Garnet single to right field would score two runners. Despite back-to-back power swings, the Pride would get three outs as those hits became fly outs falling just short of the fence. The inning would end with the Pride down 0-2.
-
The top of the fourth would see four Swarthmore runners score, and Liv Robinson's single to left field would be left on base as the Pride would total three quick outs. The Pride would head into the fifth inning down 0-6. The Garnet would extend their lead further in the top of the fifth, doubling their score and putting Widener in danger of mercy ruling at 0-12. The Pride would be unable to put the game within 10 as the Pride would fall 0-12 in five innings.
