CHESTER, Pa. - Widener men's volleyball takes a tough loss at home against national #2 team in the Stevens Institue of Technology Ducks.
The Pride fall to 8-9 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

Matthew Christ had a strong day hitting. He had a team best 11 kills and added an assist and block assist.

Josh Matchett would again have a solid passing day. He would finish with 28 assists, a kill, and an ace.

Christian Wannamaker was a defensively machine, getting a solo block and two block assists.

As a team, the Pride outassisted the Ducks 30-29.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pride started slow in the first set, as the Ducks would take a 2-4 lead early. Later in the set, Martino's block and kill would assist in a four-point run that would give Widener the lead, but a 3-0 Duck run right after would have them retake the lead at 8-7. Stevens would open the lead further, getting two points for every one Widener point, and a 3-0 Duck run would finish the set as the Pride would lose 25-17.

Widener came out strong in the second set as Matthew Christ would lead the team to a 4-1 lead. A 3-1 Duck run would close the gap for the Pride at 5-4, and the teams would trade kills with Widener keeping the lead. A 4-0 run late in the set would have the Ducks storm back to take the lead at 19-20, and again a 3-0 run would sink the Pride as they would fall 22-25

Early runs from both teams tied the score at 5 to start the third set, and the teams remained within a point for most of the set. Tied at 12, as 4-0 Stevens run would put them up 12-16, and with a 4-1 run moments later Stevens would be up 16-21. Every point from then on was an error, as the Ducks made three errors and the Pride made four to end the set as Widener would lose in three after a 19-25 third set.
