ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Pride fail to start their first win streak of the season as they suffer a loss to Elizabethtown College.
The 1-3 loss moves the Pride down to 3-3 on the season.

Despite the loss, Josh Matchett continued his strong season and put up big numbers. He finished with 30 assists and a season-best seven kills, along with four block assists and two service aces.

Ethan Cox had a solid performance, totaling nine kills and added four block assists.

Christian Wannamaker is beginning to put the conference on notice for rookie of the year considerations. He had nine kills, two assisted blocks, and an assist.

As a team, the Pride out blocked the Bluejays 12-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pride started the first set leading 4-2, but the Bluejays picked it up and the teams began trading points. Elizabethtown was able to pull away however, with a 6-2 run that would take the momentum. Widener would lose the set 25-19.

The second set would start similar, with Widener taking a 5-3 lead. A 7-2 run in the set thanks to some good blocking would push the lead further, as the Pride would go up 13-7. Elizabethtown responded by going on 7-1 run of their own followed by a 5-0 run shortly after as they would regain the lead 22-19. The Pride would storm back to tie the match at 24, but two costly errors would hand the set to the Bluejays as they would take a 26-24 loss.

The third set started hot with both teams trading scores. Ethan Cox and Stephen Marquis would get multiple scores early on assists from Matchett. The Pride's 7-2 run would push the lead to 13-11, and a 7-1 run would make it 23-16. Elizabethtown would go on a 7-1 run of their own, but an attack error would win the set 25-23 for Widener.

Up 3-1 in the fourth set, Widener would begin trading scores again with Elizabethtown. Neither team would be able to get a lead until the Bluejays would go on a 8-1 run as the Pride would go down 12-16. The teams would continue to go back and forth, but the a service error would give the set to Elizabethtown as Widener would lose the set and match with a 21-25 loss.

The Pride will travel to Wilkes-Barre where they will play in a Wilkes hosted tri-match. Their opponents will be Wilkes and Wells as the games will take place on Saturday, February 10 at 1:30 and 3:30pm respectively.
