CHESTER, Pa. - The Pride go two for two in back-to-back games as they get their second sweep in as many days against the Neumann Knights.
The Pride improve to 6-4 in the season and remain 1-0 in conference play. Their next conference match will be Wednesday, February 28 against the Stevenson Mustangs.
BY THE NUMBERS

Matthew Christ had another star performance. He led the team again with 13 kills, three block assists, and a service ace.

Josh Matchett again had a great passing night. He had a game best 33 assists, along with three service aces and two kills.

Nick Poulson was a blocking machine today. He finished with five assisted blocks, leading the team, and added three kills on .500 hitting percentage.

As a team, the Pride out-blocked the Knights 6-1 and out-aced them 8-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams came out strong in the first set, as the score was tied at 5 early with Michael Martino getting two quick kills. An 8-1 run would give Widener 13-6 lead, and the teams would begin trading points. Up 16-11, seven unanswered points led by Christian Wannamaker and Matthew Christ would see the Pride up 23-11. A kill by Matchett and an assist to Wannamaker would give Widener the win in the first set with a score of 25-12.

Neumann would be the aggressor in the second set, going up 5-2 early. Widener would respond a bit later, led by more great hits by Christ, as a 3-0 run would give the Pride a 9-8 lead. Three straight points later in the set by Neumann would give them a 16-15 lead, but the Pride would go on a 6-2 run followed by a 3-0 run to put them at game point 24-19. A service error by the Knights would give the win to Widener as they would take a 25-20 win.

The third set was an ugly one for Neumann. Although they scored first, the Knights would give up 12 straight points as Christ and Poulson would lead the team to a 12-1 edge. Stephen Marquis would begin racking up kills, as he would get two later in the set to further the lead at 19-4. Marquis would follow it up with back-to-back aces and the Pride were looking at the sweep at 22-6. Wannamaker and Izaiah Rivera would both get kills to push the Pride to 24-8, and a kill from Brian Connelly would claim victory and the sweep. Widener completed the sweep in blowout fashion, winning 25-9.

The Pride will stay home as they face the Bluejays of Elizabethtown College in a rematch to settle the score. First serve is Tuesday, February 20 at 7:30pm.
