HAVERFORD, Pa. – Widener women's track and field competed at the Seamus McElligott Invitational at Haverford College on Saturday. The throws portion, however, was done at Widener on Friday, Jan. 26.
Maria Muzzarelli came in first in the 60-meter dash. Her time of 7.88 gave her MAC and AARTFC qualifications.
Jayla Gore and Mariam Koita also came in the top 10 in 60 meters. Gore's 8.13 and Koita's 8.21 were good enough for MAC qualifications.
Muzzarelli and Koita were third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Muzzarelli placed at 26.29 seconds, while Koita finished with 26.96.
In the 400-meter race, five student-athletes placed in the top 10, including three in the top five.
Kelly Barr's time of 1:02.08 was good for second. She earned a MAC qualifier.
Donna Holt came in second for 800 meters and earned a MAC qualifier. Her time of 2:25.07 was less than two seconds away from first.
Gabby Nye and
Elizabeth Egan were first and second, respectively, in 3000 meters. Nye had a time of 10:14.49, while Egan placed 10:30.87. Both times were give MAC and AARTFC qualifications.
Widener came in first for the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Barr,
Olivia DeVito, Erica Thomas, and
Emma Schultz placed a time of 4:13.44. It was almost four seconds better than the second-place team.
For the field events, Kayla Robinson's distance of 10.93 meters in shot put got a MAC qualifier on Friday. She came in fourth in her first collegiate event.
Isabel Rodriguez earned MAC and AARTFC qualifiers for her 14.5 meter throw in weight throw. It was good enough for third place in the event, but it was a career-best for her.
