Widener Women’s Basketball Getting Ready to Tip-off New Season

9/20/2023 11:17:00 AM

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener women's basketball head coach Alisa Kintner has announced the 2023-24 schedule.

The Pride are coming off an 11-16 season (7-9 in MAC play). They were 2-7 before going 8-8 for the rest of the regular season to clinch the fifth and final spot in the MAC playoffs. They fell to the Messiah University Falcons in the Conference Semifinals.

Kinter said she and the team cannot wait for the new campaign.

"We're ready and excited for the new season," she said. "Playing in multiple tournaments early on will test our squad against opponents we don't usually see. Once we get to the new year, I'm excited to start our games against MAC opponents. I'm confident in what our group can accomplish this year."

Widener has a young roster returning for the new season, including sophomore post-player Mia Robbins, sophomore guard Lindsay Kutz, senior guard Gianna Samuels, and fifth-year guard Jordan D'Ambrosio.

D'Ambrosio was a driving force for the Pride last season. She averaged 13.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.04 assists, 1.04 steals, 1.1 blocks per game (The points and blocks were first on the team; the assists and steals were second-best on the team). For her hard work on the court, she was named to the All-MAC Second Team.

The Pride start the season on Friday, Nov. 10 at the Gwynedd Mercy Tournament. Widener will tip-off against Penn State-Abington and Penn State-Berks. Their first home game is against the Swarthmore College Garnet on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. That game is followed by the Pride travelling to the Hunter Tournament in New York. They will see St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and Farmingdale State.

In December, the Pride will travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. the week before Christmas for the Cruzin Classic tournament. They will take on Sarah Lawrence on Dec. 17 and Eastern Connecticut State on Dec. 18.

The Pride begin their final 14 regular-season games starting on Jan. 3. Each of those games are against MAC opponents. Widener's first game in that stretch is at Hood. On Jan. 13, the Pride face a tough stretch: at Alvernia, at Messiah, and versus Albright.

In February, they have three consecutive home games against Hood, Messiah, and Alvernia before finishing the regular season on the road at York and Albright. The Albright game is on Feb. 17.
