HOW IT HAPPENED IN THE SCHWARTZ CENTER
Within the first minute of action, Widener and Albright were each on the board. Jordan D'Ambrosio got the Pride started after a driving lay-up dropped in forty seconds into the game. Widener was able to capitalize in the paint, especially Mia Robbins, who scored the next five points in layups and free throws. Two good jump shots from Ava Baer and Rachel Ludwig kept the Pride pushing but the Lions found themselves with a nine-point lead with two minutes remaining in the quarter.
Going into the second quarter 26-16, a good jumper by Rachel Ludwig got the momentum going and twenty seconds later, Mary McFillin stole the ball and added two points off a fast break. Two scoreless minutes passed then Albright's Amina Rauf scored in the paint, bringing the score to 31-20. The Pride defense kept the Lions at 31 points and a combination of layups and free throws from Mia Robbins and Lindsey Kutz closed the score gap to just two points. The Pride shot 100% in free throws in this quarter. A last-second layup by Robbins brought the score to 33-31 to end the half.
The Pride came out in the second half ready to fight and the Pride saw their first points of the third come within thirty seconds of play as Lindsey Kutz sank a three-pointer, making the score 35-34. The Lions went on to score six more points, but Kimmy Casiello answered with a good jumper with 6:38 left in the quarter. This would be the last time Widener would see a score gap of five or less as the Lions went on to score eleven points to finish the quarter compared to the Pride's seven.
The last quarter of the game brought out the grit as Gianna Samules came right out of the gates with a steal that fed Jordan D'Ambrosio the ball to score in the paint. A series of turnovers and fouls gave Albright insurance points, extending their lead to ten points, with the score sitting at 57-47 with 6:13 left in the game. The Lions and Pride went back and forth, playing hard defense and fast-paced offense. Robbins tried to keep the Pride offense going after scoring a layup with eight minutes on the clock. The Pride turned the ball over three times and finally got their rhythm back when Kutz scored two with 5:54 left to play. A foul by Albright's Edmond sent Robbins to the free-throw line where she sunk both attempts and a steal from Casiello off the inbound got the crowd excited. With 2:01 remaining, Robbins dropped another two points and a steal by D'Ambrosio got Kutz to the free-throw line where she made one and missed one. With 1:31 remaining, Casiello grabbed a steal and Kutz found her way to the line once again and made both free throws. With thirty seconds remaining, Kutz scored the Pride's last four points of the game as they walked away with a 60-67 loss.
