READING, Pa. – The Widener softball team split a pair of games with Albright in its first MAC Commonwealth doubleheader of the season on Sunday afternoon at Albright College's softball field.
The Pride came away with a 7-3 win in the first game, but the Lions won the nightcap by an 11-3 count.
Widener is now 12-6 on the season and 1-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALBRIGHT IN GAME 1
- The Pride overcame a 2-0 deficit by scoring six runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Ally McDowell hit a two-run double and Liz Renavitz smacked a three-run double, then scored on an Albright throwing error during the same sequence.
- After Albright scored a run in the sixth, the Pride tacked on a run in the seventh on an RBI single from Mikaela Lovell.
- Renavitz threw a complete game in the circle, allowing only three earned runs on seven hits while striking out 10 batters.
- Renavitz, McDowell, Lovell and Kaylin Johnson led the Pride at the plate with two hits apiece. Johnson also drew three walks for the Pride.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALBRIGHT IN GAME 2
- The Pride fell behind early, as Albright scored five runs in the first inning.
- The Pride pushed across a run in the second inning after Renavitz scored on an error, but the Lions scored six runs in the next inning and a half to take an 11-1 lead.
- The Pride got two runs in the fourth after Renavitz hit an RBI triple and Johnson had an RBI single.
- Renavitz and Johnson led the Pride with two hits apiece.

The Pride will hit the road on Tuesday to take on Cedar Crest in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m., with the nightcap to follow at 5 p.m.
