Women’s Basketball Upends No. 11 Messiah on Senior Day for Ninth Straight Win

Pride rally from 19-point deficit in second half to notch victory and earn second seed in MAC Commonwealth Tournament

CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener women's basketball team rallied from a 19-point deficit in the second half to knock off No. 11 Messiah, 72-66, on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Schwartz Athletic Center.

The victory was monumental for the Pride, as they won their ninth straight game to finish the regular season with a 17-6 overall record and 13-3 mark in MAC Commonwealth play.

More importantly, the Pride earned the second seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Tournament after they finished tied for second with York and owned the tiebreaker against the Spartans based off head-to-head results against each team in the conference in descending order of finish in the standings. Both Widener and York split their two games against Messiah and swept fourth-place finisher Stevenson, but Widener earned the second seed by sweeping Albright this season while York went 1-1 against the Lions.
