Widener Announces Jamie Lachall As Softball Head Coach

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener University Director of Athletics Jack Shafer announced the addition of Jamie Lachall as Widener softball head coach.

"We are very excited to welcome Jamie back to the area to Widener as our next Head Coach of our softball program," said Shafer. "Jamie brings experience coaching one of the top programs in the SUNYAC over the past several years and I know she is ready and excited to get to work with our team. Coach Lachall inherits a competitive group of players that are looking forward to making an impact in the conference for seasons to come."

Lachall has recently spent the past five years at SUNY Cortland as the assistant coach where she served as the primary pitching coach for four years. During her time as pitching coach, Lachall helped the Red Dragons go 100-60, a SUNYAC Championship, and an NCAA Regional appearance. Over the course of her coaching career, she had numerous pitchers named SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week, SUNYAC Athlete of the Week, and most notably Kelly O'Gorman's COSIDA Academic All-American. For her efforts, she was named SUNY Cortland Pitching Staff Northeast All Region in 2018, 2019, and 2021.

Outside of collegiate coaching, Lachall helped plan and implement a competitive and affordable softball program for low-income youth in Cortland, N.Y. and ran clinics and private lessons for young athletes in the Cortland and Ridley, Pa. area.

As a Red Dragon herself, Lachall spent her four years playing softball with a 42-18 record, a 2.16 ERA, five shutouts, and 173 strikeouts in her 98 appearances. Lachall sits in SUNY Cortland's top 10 in school history in wins, total innings pitched, and game appearances. As a standout player, she was named NCAA Northeast Region 2nd and 3rd team, SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week twice, Pitcher of the Year twice, and SUNY Cortland All American Players in 2021.

"I am truly excited to come back to my old stomping grounds and join Widener as their new Head Softball Coach," Lachall said. "It's an honor to follow in Fred's footsteps and continue to build upon the strong foundation he has laid throughout his successful coaching career at Widener. Big thanks to the administration, coaches, and players at SUNY Cortland for an incredible journey. To Molly O, thanks for being the example and an amazing friend and boss. I would like to thank Jack Shafer and the search committee for allowing me to help continue and grow the legacy of this program."

Lachall earned a bachelor's degree in speech and hearing science from SUNY Cortland in 2018. Currently, she is finishing her masters in sport management.
