CENTER VALLEY, Pa.
– The Widener women's cross country team made their marks in school history again on Saturday morning and punched their ticket for the first time to the 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.

This year's NCAA Regionals were split into ten different sites, where placing first in that region earned a qualifying entry to Nationals. Of the 24 teams running at Center Valley, Widener came out on top in the Metro Regional with 61 points and an average course time of 23:41. The Pride took the victory by over 30 points against next closest team, Swarthmore. The Blue and Gold's seven runners earned a 1st, 4th, 14th, 19th, 23rd, 28th, and 85th overall placing. Of the seven Pride runners, six were named USTFCCCA All-Metro Region honors.

Junior, Gabby Nye led the Pride with a first place run with a final time of 22:50. Nye was named MAC Runner of the Year last weekend at the MAC Championships where she won an individual title and helped the Pride to their first conference title in school history.

Nye was followed closely behind by teammate Katelyn Bernotas. The 1st team MAC All-Conference runner placed 4th overall running at a 6:12 pace and crossing the finish line in 23:10.

Junior Emily Cooney broke into the top 15 and registered a 14th place finish running in at 24:00. Following closely was Carly Gable at 19th place with a final run of 24:09 and an average pace of 6:28. Gable was garnered a MAC 2nd team accolade while Gable earned 1st team for their performances at the MAC Championships last weekend.

Elizabeth Egan and Jaden Sweely ran in at 24:13 and 24: 24 respectively. The junior duo helped bump out competing runners and earned a 23rd and 28th place in the overall rankings. Sweely was named to the All-MAC second team.

Rounding out the Pride was senior Emily Rudolph placing 85th overall with a time of 27:02. Rudolph ran at a 7:15 pace and snuck into the top 50 percentile.

The Pride continue to make their mark in the history books at the 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on November 19th in Lansing, Michigan.
