CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener field hockey team pulled out a thrilling victory on Saturday, as it won a 4-3 shootout Lebanon Valley, 4-3, following a 1-1 tie in their MAC Commonwealth game at Edith R. Dixon Field.
With the win, the Pride improved to 3-1 in conference play and 7-4 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LEBANON VALLEY
- After the Pride and the Dutchmen finished regulation and overtime tied at 1, they finished knotted up at 2 following the first series of the shootout.
- When the shootout went to sudden victory, sophomore Juliana Sanchez made a go-ahead goal but shooting the ball into the cage from the right side.
- Then, first-year goalie Lilly Rejrat made the biggest save of the year by stopping a Lebanon Valley shot to seal the victory.
- Sanchez also scored a goal in the first series of the shootout, making the Pride's fifth attempt to tie the shootout at 2. Graduate student Jesse Schlosser also had two goals in the shootout, making the Pride's first goal in the first series and scoring another on their first shot attempt of sudden victory.
- Makenzie Adamson scored the Pride's lone goal in regulation, as she netted a goal off a rebound in the fifth minute.
- Defensively, Lily Rejrat made one save in regulation, but forced the Dutchmen to miss four of their seven shots in the shootout.

Widener will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Rowan in a non-conference game. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
