Men's Swimming Adds Two Wins Against King's and Hood But Fall To Messiah

Shane Douthit's sprint talent earns out touches and two individual wins

CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener University men's swimming team pick up two victories and a loss in a quad meet on Saturday against Messiah University, King's College, and Hood College. Saturday afternoon's quad meet wraps up its first home meets of the season.
 
The Pride's two victories and one loss put the women's record to 4-1 on the regular season and 3-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN THE SCHWARTZ CENTER
  • The men open the meet with a 3rd place finish in the 200-medley relay (Zach Anderson, Patrick Rankin, Joshua Cunningham, Patrick Rauch) with a time of 1:44.96.
  • Jason Mongiovi starts the Pride with the first top three finish in individual events with a 3rd in the 200 free (1:50.53).
  • One event later, Shane Douthit adds another individual win in the 50 free (22.32) and out touches Messiah's Lukens by 0.05.
  • Rankin finishes 2nd in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:34.35.
  • Mongiovi controls his last two individual events with victories in the 200 fly (2:01.21) and 200 breast (2:15.52).
  • Douthit keeps the out touches coming with another in the 100 free (49.56) making that a season best with plenty of swimming to come.
  • In the 200 back, Rauch cruses to a 2nd place finish with a time of 2:06.43, also making that a season best.
  • The Blue and Gold finish out the meet with its first relay win of the meet in the 200-freestyle relay (Cunningham, Isaiah Moreef, Rauch, Douthit) in a time of 1:30.48.
  • After 22 events, the Pride pick up a win against King's College 123-50, a win against Hood College 106-82, and a loss against Messiah University 113-83.

Widener hits the road for the first time this season to Collegeville, Pa. where they compete against Ursinus College. First splash is set for Saturday, Nov 5th at 1 p.m.
