@WidenerEsports Delivers Strong Showing In CRL Qualifier #1

CHESTER, Pa. - Playing against some of the top competition around, the Widener University Esports team had a strong showing with a 4-2 record, advancing to the seventh round of the Collegiate Rocket League Qualifier #1 on Sunday. 

The Blue and Gold was represented in the tournament by Tom "tommy" Eisenhower, Jack "therm" Merhar, Kyle "Scoob" Samber, and Ethan "Mixo" Monroe.

Opening with a first round bye, the Pride started competition against Liberty University Red, downing the Flames 2-0 by scores of 4-1 and 5-1. Next up was the University of Cincinnati Black squad, resulting in another 2-0 victory, this time by 5-0 and 3-1 scores. 

After a 2-1 setback against University of South Florida Green, Widener progressed to face University of Maryland Black, coming up with a 2-0 win, edging the Terps in the first game 4-3 before a 4-1 victory in the second game. 

In round six, the Pride dropped a close first game against McGill 2-0, rebounding for a 5-0 win in the second game. In the deciding contest, Widener topped the Martlets 6-5. The tournament run came to an end in the next round as, after downing the University of Tennessee 2-1 in the first game, UT came away with back-to-back wins to advance. 

The Blue and Gold returns to action with CRL Qualifier #2 on Sunday, September 27 at 12:00 p.m.
