CHESTER, Pa. – After giving up four first inning runs, the Widener University baseball team rallied in the middle innings to come away with an 8-5 MAC Commonwealth win against the Albright Lions on Sunday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
	- Stephen DeBellis had a big game at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double, homer, and four RBI. He now has six long balls on the year, tying his career-high, also representing the most in a season for Widener since Dan Sieracki had seven in 2011.
- Brennan Taylor and Greg Elfreth led the Pride with three hits each. Nick D'Alessandro added two and scored twice.
- Matt Samson singled in the sixth inning, extending his hitting streak to nine games.
- Kade Jones whiffed a career-high nine batters in the game.
- James Dougherty authored 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- Trailing 4-0 after an inning, Widener got a run back in the bottom of the second as Ryan Bennett reached on a two-base error and came in to score on an RBI single from Taylor.
- The Pride clawed closer in the third as D'Alessandro reached on a bunt single and scored two batters later as DeBellis doubled off the leftfield wall, slicing the edge to 4-2.
- After working its way back into the game early, WU exploded in the fourth to take the lead. A single by Taylor and a walk to Tommy Scharnikow put runners on for Tommy McParland who singled in Taylor to make it 4-3. D'Alessandro followed with a double, plating Scharnikow to tie the game. Two batters later, DeBellis delivered the big blow in the frame, a three-run homer, putting Widener up 7-4.
- The rally continued as Reis walked with two out. Bennett came up and lashed a double into the left-center gap, bringing in the runner to cap the scoring in the inning.
- From there, the pitching took over as only one run came across on a solo homer the rest of the game.
- After giving up the first inning runs, Jones settled down to allow just one more in 5.1 innings, earning his first win of the season.
- Dougherty pitched the final 3.1 scoreless for his first career save.
