CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University softball team honored its two seniors,
Sydney Powell and
Anna Robinson, prior to Saturday's doubleheader sweep over the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen.
Kait Jaworski led the way in game one, allowing just two runs over seven innings and helping the Pride capture a 3-2 victory. After falling down 4-0 early in game two, the Pride put up eight unanswered runs to secure an 8-4 win. Â
Highlights
- Ally McDowell had a 5-7 day at the plate. She recorded one RBI, two runs, and a stolen base.
- Hope DiMario went 3-3 in game two and scored a run.
- Jamie Gosselin had three hits and drove in one run in both games.
- Ariel Silva hit her conference-leading seventh homerun of the year in game two.
- Kait Jaworski picked up her conference-leading 12th win in game one.
- Carli Benozich won game one for Widener with a walk-off single.
How it happened in game one
- Pitching on both sides dominated early on, resulting in a scoreless draw through four-and-a-half innings.
- Gosselin walked to begin the bottom of the fourth then stole second. She scored on a throwing errors to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.
- Jaworski had the Dutchmen hitters guessing throughout the afternoon, letting up just one hit between the fifth and sixth innings.
- Widener added some insurance in the sixth. Gosselin led off the inning with a single and ended up scoring on the hit because of LVC throwing errors.
- The Dutchmen finally broke through in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs and forcing the Pride to hit in the bottom half of the inning.
- Mikaela Lovell got it going in the seventh with a single. McDowell then singled and Gosselin walked, loading the bases for Carli Benozich with one out.
- The junior shortstop ripped a line drive over the right fielder's head, scoring Lovell and ending the game.

How it happened in game two
- Lebanon Valley jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
- Widener cut the lead in half in the third inning thanks to a squeeze bunt from McDowell to score DiMario, and a single to center field off the bat of Gosselin that brought home Lovell.
- It stayed 4-2 until the bottom of the fifth. The Widener bats erupted for four runs in the inning, beginning with a double from McDowell and ending with a Marissa Camac RBI single.
- After the second, Sydney Powell settled into a rhythm, holding the Dutchmen scoreless until the sixth.
- Up 6-4 in the sixth, Silva cracked a two-run homer to create some breathing room for the Pride.
- Jaworski was brought in to finish the game for Powell and secure the sweep for Widener.
