CHESTER, Pa. –
Pat Downey had five catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, but the Widener University football team fell to the Lycoming Warriors 33-19 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Warriors got on the board first in the second stanza, plunging in from two yards out. Widener responded with a quick TD drive of its own to knot the game at 7-7. Lycoming bounced back and used a pair of field goals and a late score to take a 20-7 lead into halftime.

The Warriors added a third field goal to push the lead to 23-7 before the Pride got back on the board, returning the ensuing kickoff, pulling to 23-13. Lycoming extended the lead with a TD pass late in the third before Widener followed suit with 12 second left in the frame. A fourth field goal from the Warriors late in the final period cemented the closing score.

BY THE NUMBERS
- James Gillespie had 191 yards in kick returns including a 95-yarder for a touchdown. It is the first special teams TD for the Pride in two seasons 2016 and the first kick return score since Laquan Robinson brought one back 88 yards at Albright on October 29, 2011.
- Downey's touchdown catch was the first of his Widener career.
- Joey Bristow also caught five passes, gaining 41 yards in his first action of the season.
- In his first career start, Eric Riley led the Blue and Gold on defense, coming up with 11 tackles including 2.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks as well as knocking a ball down at the line of scrimmage and posting a QB hurry.
- Jordan Powell, Brendan Kearns, and Mike Pawlowski each had nine tackles.Â
