KISSIMMEE, Fla.  – The Widener University softball team opened its season on Monday afternoon at the Diamond 9 Sunkissed Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Pride dropped both of their contests, falling to Muskingum 11-3 and Ohio Northern 8-3.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Katie Sterling and Lauren DelRomano each had three hits in the two games with Sterling homering against ONU.
- Liv Rogers, Olivia Rigby, and Lindsey Cooper each had two hits.
- Rogers drove in all three runs against the Fighting Muskies.
- Kait Jaworski gave the Blue and Gold some solid relief in game two, allowing just one earned run in three innings, striking out five.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MUSKINGUM
- Widener opened the scoring in the top of the first as with two outs, three consecutive singles by DelRomano, Sterling, and Rogers plated the opening run of the contest.
- Muskingum came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
- The Pride came back in the third as Jamie Gosselin walked to open the inning. After she was sacrificed to second, she moved to third on a single by DelRomano. DelRomano stole second to put runners on second and third for Rogers, who singled to right to bring home both runners.
- The Muskies responded in the bottom of the frame, sending 11 batters to the plate, scoring five times. They would add two each in the fourth and fifth to end the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. OHIO NORTHERN
- After the Polar Bears tallied an unearned run in the top of the first, the Blue and Gold came back with two in the bottom of the frame as with two down, DelRomano singled in front of Sterling who cracked her first homer of the season down the leftfield line, putting the Pride up 2-1.
- Ohio Northern got the runs back in the top of the second on a two-run double by Jenna Hollar, going back up 3-2. The Polar Bears tacked on a single run in the third and fourth before tallying three in the sixth to go up 8-2.
- Widener scratched across a run in the bottom of the sixth when it loaded the bases before Maddie Keinbaum delivered a sac fly to make it 8-3.

The Pride plays two more games tomorrow, taking on Bluffton at 1:30 p.m. before a 6:00 p.m. contest against Baldwin Wallace.Â
