@WidenerSoftball Continues Play at Sunkissed Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Widener University softball team continued its play at the Diamond 9 Sunkissed Games on Tuesday, falling in a pair of contests, 4-1 to Bluffton and 3-1 to Baldwin Wallace.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Several players had a multi-hit day as Jamie Gosselin recorded three hits while Taylor Allen, Carli Benzoich, Lauren DelRomano, and Lindsey Cooper each had two hits in the two games.
  • Cooper and DelRomano each drove in a run.
  • Bella Bottini pitched well in the nightcap, allowing just one earned run on four hits, striking out four in the complete game effort.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. BLUFFTON
  • Both starting pitchers were strong early as the game went scoreless into the fourth.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Pride loaded the bases on a fielding error and singles from Rabuck and Benzoich. After a strikeout and a force at home kept the Pride off the board with two outs, Lindsey Cooper singled to left to bring home Rabuck for the first run of the contest.
  • The lead held until the sixth inning when Bluffton scored all four of its runs, two of them unearned.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. BALDWIN WALLACE
  • Scoreless into the third, Widener posted a run as Gosselin singled with one out, stole second and stood there for DelRomano who doubled her home for a 1-0 Pride lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the inning with a tally of their own to knot the score.
  • Baldwin Wallace struck again in the fourth as a fielding error with the bases loaded and two out allowed the Yellow Jackets to bring a pair of runs across the plate.
  • B-W had another chance in the fifth, loading the bases, but Bottini was able to work her way out of it, striking out the final two batters of the frame.
 
UP NEXT
Widener has a day off tomorrow before playing two on March 8, taking on Illinois College at 1:30 p.m. and John Carroll at 3:45 p.m.
